Updates from Food Service

  • If you think your child/children may qualify for free or reduced priced meals for the 2022 - 2023 school year, please complete an application.  The link is found below or you can call 570-966-8241 for a paper application.

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware during the pandemic, the governing body of our national breakfast and lunch program, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the opportunity for school districts across the country to provide Free meals to all students regardless of income eligibility.

At this time, the USDA has not extended this opportunity for free meals to continue for the 2022-2023 school year.  Thus, the 2022-23 school year will require Free/Reduced priced meal eligibility for students/families to be determined through the traditional application process.

An application must be completed and approved each school year.  If you feel you may qualify for free or reduced meals, you should submit an application before the end of the 2021-2022 school year.  If you are approved for free or reduced, the eligibility is carried over into the next school year for the first 30 school days to allow time for families to re-apply.  You must reapply after July 1, 2022 for the 2022-2023 school year.  If a new application has not been received and approved by the cut-off date of October 5, 2022, eligibility for the program is forfeited, and parents are responsible for meal charges incurred.

Applications can be submitted at any time during the school year.  Applications can be downloaded or submitted electronically by clicking the link on the district website under Meals & Nutrition and clicking on the PA School Meals Apply for Meal Benefits link(see link below.)  Applications are also available at your child's school office or by calling the food service office at 570-966-8241.

Students approved for subsidized meals at another school district are not eligible in our district until an application has been received and approved by the MASD.  If a member of your household receives Food Stamps or TANF Cash Assistance, your child is eligible for free meals, but an application may still need to be provided to help us to register your child for benefits.

Questions concerning the application approval process should be addressed to the Food Service office at 570-966-8241
