Welcome to my new classroom website!
I am a Mifflinburg graduate and went on to graduate from Juniata College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. I started teaching second grade at Buffalo Crossroads Elementary School in 1996. I enjoyed teaching second grade for 14 years. During this time, I earned my Master’s Degree in Reading from Bloomsburg University and earned my certification as a Reading Specialist. Before the 2010/2011 school year I left the classroom to be a Reading Specialist. I love teaching children to read and can’t imagine doing anything else.
I live in Selinsgrove with my husband, two children, and our two cats, Skittles and Misty. We love to spend time reading, swimming, playing outside, playing games, and taking pictures. In my spare time, I enjoy scrapbooking our family pictures. My favorite place to read is by the pool in the summer and by the fire in the winter. I love reading and I enjoy sharing that gift with young children.
Every day I ask myself, “What does this child need to learn?” Asking myself this same question for each child I work with has helped me stay focused on individuals. My focus as a teacher is to create an environment in which each child can learn and to make that happen by individualizing instruction. I learn what each child knows and build upon that knowledge each and every day. The key to learning is success. When a child feels successful, they have the ambition to push forward and learn new and exciting things. My goal as a teacher is to make each of my students feel successful in reading and develop a life-long love for reading.
