ifflinburg Title 1 Information

Each year since 1968 the federal government has made funds available to school districts under its Title 1 program to provide support to students in the areas of reading and mathematics.  The Mifflinburg Area School District has always taken advantage of these funds by employing reading and math specialists and providing additional supports to as many as 300 students in grades kindergarten through five each year.  The district is again providing this service for the current school year.  We consider various measures and test scores, teacher opinions, and parent opinions to determine which students may benefit from a bit of additional help in these areas.

The following schools in the Mifflinburg Area School District are identified as eligible Title 1 buildings where these services are available:

·         Buffalo Cross Roads Elementary

·         Laurelton Elementary

·         Mifflinburg Elementary

·         Mifflinburg Area Intermediate

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, parents have a right to request professional qualifications of their children’s teachers(s) or paraprofessional(s).  Parents are notified if their child is assigned to or being taught for four consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified in a core academic subject.  As a parent, you have the right to ask the following information about your children’s classroom teachers or paraprofessionals:

·         Is the teacher licensed for the grades or subjects he/she teaches?

·         Is the teacher teaching under emergency or provisional status?

·         What was the teacher’s baccalaureate degree major and does the teacher have any advanced degrees, and if so, what subject?

·         Is any instruction being provided by a paraprofessional and, if so, what are their qualifications?

Parents are an important influence in helping their children achieve at high levels.  When parents are involved in education, children do better in school and schools improve. Our district is fully committed to the success of your child.  We appreciate your partnership in our efforts to provide the best education possible for your child.  For information and resources about parent involvement in schools, visit the Pennsylvania State Parent Advisory Council at www.spac.k12.pa.us.
